Here, There, Elsewhere

One of the first writers to arrive in
post-war Jaffna, its narrow airstrip lined with gooseneck flares for night landings, I’ve arrived in many places on the edge of many maps, and never quite left.

For almost two decades, I’ve been dashing through the snow and plunging into frozen rivers in the Arctic (in scarlet swimsuits, no less!). Or making great escapes through active landslides on India’s easternmost ledge, and its northernmost toehold in the Trans-Himalayas. All in the hope of getting somewhere, someday.

Until then, you’re welcome to
walk with me.
